Top Teacher & Student

A: Teachers will receive the following points:

Each adult Pro/Am or Student/Student entry: 1 point

Each Solo Exhibition or Showcase entry: 1 point

Each Amateur event: 1 point

Pro/Am Multi 3, 4 or 5 dance events: 5 points

B: Placement points for Teachers for Pro/Am, Student/Student entries:

Each: 1st place – 8 points * 2nd place – 7 points * 3rd place – 6 points

4th place – 5 points * 5th place – 4 points * 6th place – 3 points

7th place – 2 points * 8th place – 1 point

C: Placement points for Teachers for Multi – dance events:

Each: 1st place – 16 points * 2nd place – 14 points * 3rd place – 12 points

4th place – 10 points * 5th place – 8 points * 6th place – 6 points

7th place – 4 points * 8th place – 2 points

D: Pre-Teens, Juniors, & Youths:

If Couples or Pro/Ams pay full adult fees they will receive same points as adult entries.

If Couples or Pro/Ams pay reduced fees they will receive no points

If Couples or Pro/Ams pay no fees, they will receive no points.

E: Top Pro/Am Students & Student/Student will accumulate points based on the

same system as Top Teachers. On Student/Student entries, the main teacher will receive the points. If Student/Student has 2 main teachers then points will be split equally.

Official Rules, Revised January 2009

Randy Ferguson’s Dance Houston are conducted under the rules of the N.D.C.A. and all their rules apply. In addition to the following rules shall apply:

1. If you are a Professional or a Professional dancing in Pro/Am or an Amature competitor you must be registered with the NDCA. To register contact Eleanor Wiblin at NDCA, P.O. Box 22018, Provo, Utah, 84062; 801-422-8124 or Fax 801-378-3734. If you register at the competition., there will be an NDCA directed surcharge.

2. The organizers have hired the most qualified, Championship Adjudicators and scrutineers available. The Chairperson of judges shall be the sole arbiter on decisions concerning ties, penalties, and other judges’ decisions.

3. Male Competitors are required to wear numbers. Showcases, solos, and Formations are exempt.

4. No lifts, drops, or floor drags permitted in Pro/Am or Amateur closed categories.

5. The On-Deck system will be used for line up for competition heats. Competitors must check in with the On Deck Captain and be prepared to compete at least 30 minutes before the time scheduled.

6. It is the responsibility of competitors to verify the correctness of entries, dances, and partners IN ADVANCE of the time scheduled for heats. You will be provided with “heat sheets” at registration.

7. No teacher will be permitted to compete with one of his/her students against another.

8. The organizers reserve the right to cancel or merge any competition with fewer than 3 entries.

9. All syllabi approved by the NDCA are allowed for all closed and open categories competed in at this competition. Invigilators and the chairperson of judges have been instructed to be cognizant of this fact when considering penalties.

10. Competitors dancing in OPEN categories are not required to stay within the parameters of step lists. You may do whatever your talents and experience allow you to do. Everything, however, must be within the bounds of good taste.

11. Costumes are not allowed in Novice Amateur Bronze & Silver levels.

12. Refunds due to cancellations before the deadline will be processed after the competition. Doctors certificate required for refunds after deadline. Package and/or Entry cancellations and/or room reservations made after May 20th will not be eligible for a refund.

13. There will be no credit given for cancellations made at the competition. Any changes made at the competition, due to no fault of the Organizer, will be assessed at $20 per change. PLEASE CHECK CONFIRMATION INFORMATION PRIOR TO COMING TO COMPETITION.

14. Age Categories: [A]. Adult Competitors my enter, in addition to their regular age, TWO age categories younger than his/her regular age. (i.e. Ladies B can dance in Ladies A and Ladies A1 as well as Ladies B)

15. Students may enter up to THREE CATEGORIES above his/her normal level of dancing. The Novice and Newcomer Events are not considered full categories. Anyone my enter Open championships.

16. Pro/Am Scholarships:

1. This is an Adult only, unisex competition
2. Pro/Am Students must compete in a minimum of Five regular Freestyle events. These qualifying free-styles must be in the same level, style, and category as the scholarship. I.e.: four bronze ballroom single dances qualifies you for bronze ballroom closed scholarship.
3. Championship or multi-dance categories count as ONLY ONE of the four dance requirements.
4. ANY open scholarship has no syllabus restrictions.
5. Scholarships are open to all adult students who fulfill requirements regardless of age or sex. Male and females students and ages are combined and compete against the other.
6. Note! If work, school, or another valid reason prevents a competitor from being at the competition when the qualifying freestyle dances are scheduled, showcase routines in the same level and category may be substituted for the deficient number of dances. The organizers must be notified if this situation exists so showcases can be scheduled before the pertinent scholarship is danced.

17. Top Teacher Requirements:

1. There is no entry fee for Top Teacher
2. This is a unisex competition.
3. In order to be eligible for top teacher awards, teachers must be on a package.
4. Teachers are not required to have a specific number of students competing to qualify.

Showcases:

Danced to your own music. Music must be supplied to organizers on an analog cassette or CD.

Time Limit : 3 minutes. Danced in same levels as freestyle events.

COMPETITORS CONDUCT

1. While on the competition premises, competitors shall conduct themselves in a civil, sportsmanlike manner at all times.

2. It is the competitor’s responsibility to be in attendance in advance of the advertised time scheduled for the events he is entering.

3. Competitors entering a RANDY FERGUSON’S DANCE HOUSTON event shall accept as final the individual markings of the Judges and no appeal against them may be made, except when it can be shown that the actual markings have been incorrectly interpreted.

4. No competitor shall harass or question a judge about his/her personal reasons for marking.

5. Any competitor who removes any of the master scrutineer sheets without the permission of the Organizer shall render himself liable to disciplinary action.

6. The Organizer of the RANDY FERGUSON’S DANCE HOUSTON reserves the right to reject the application of any competitor who has violated any of the above rules of conduct in any recognized N.D.C.A. event.
